About

I love writing and using fiction to convey powerful messages about redemption and God’s love. When I’m not writing I enjoy music, reading and going for long walks. I’m married to my best friend Ade Benson, who also happens to be cute, funny and male :-D, and we live in North West England with our two gorgeous little girls.

I love hearing from readers so feel free to email me at dayo@dayobenson.com

FAQ

Who is your favourite author?

I have many but Dee Henderson and Denise Hunter are my absolute favourites. For non fiction I like Stormie Omartian and John Bevere.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It used to take me a while but these days it’s a few weeks if I’m focused. About two months if I’m not focused.

Where do you get the inspiration for your novels?

Everything is inspiration, but mainly it’s my over-active imagination.

Did you always want to be an author?

Not really. I have always loved books, but I was mainly a reader. Growing up I read anything and everything I could get my hands on. I tried a few times to write a novel and never got past the first few chapters. But I had this spark in my late teens that just turned into a full flame and I’ve been writing ever since.

Why do you write?

I love books, I love the adventure of dreaming up people and situations, and I love taking other people (readers) on my adventures.

Are you a Christian writer or a Christian who writes?

At the moment I’m a Christian writer. One day I might graduate into a Christian who writes if I get enough inspiration. But I would probably use a pen name for that.

Which of your own books is your favourite?

It always changes. At the moment it’s Sleeper (Book 7 of my Crystal Series).

Who is your favourite main character from your own books?

Alejandro, of course. He’s silly and fun to write about.

High heels or flats.

Flats.

  1. Hi Dayo, I’m so inspired by you as a Christian writer. I’m a Christian romance writer but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to market my book. Do you self-publish? If so, did you find the process to be easy?

    1. Hi Tanya, yes I’m an independent author, and no I don’t find it easy. But I love the writing side of things enough to keep at it. Marketing is tough, and it’s particularly tricky for me because I don’t write the usual type of Christian fiction. The broader appeal your books have, the easier it might be to market them. Wishing you all the best with your writing. If you’d like to chat further or just need encouragement, feel free to drop me an email.
      God bless 🙂

  2. Hi dayo Benson! I love your books. They are soo interesting, they should be turned into movies. ( Especially the beauty for ashes series, the Crystal series and the Lincoln series). They are so inspiring and encouraging. They have helped me through my toughest points in life and I want to thank you for that. Is it true that we will be seeing more of crystal after the Lincoln series? Will she have her own books again? I would love that. Crystal is my role model even if she is not real. Lol😢😀 She passed through hard times but only became a better person. So inspiring.

    1. Hey Maria, I’m so glad you’ve found the Crystal series inspiring. Yes, there will be more Crystal books. Once I wrap up with The Lincolns, Crystal and the team will be going on new adventures.
I would love them all to be turned into movies 🙂 Who knows, it might happen someday.
So glad my books have been an encouragement to you through tough times. All the best to you xx

God bless you and keep inspiring and sharing God’s love through your books. Your books have helped me so much, through the toughest points in my life. Is it true that we will be seeing more of crystal after the Lincoln series? Will there be more books about her?

  7. I loved your Lincoln series and just recently finish the last one. I eagerly await addition to this series since there are so many issues unresolved. I would love to see Saul find Ivy and they rekindle their romance. Also, will Samuel’s depression be lifted as he moves towards Christianity? Finally will Jared become a Christian?
To keep me busy I am reading the Crystal series. Looking forward to hearing from you. Till then continue to allow God to use you to build His kingdom.

    1. Hey Brenda, what a sweet comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying the Lincolns series. I’ve been caught up working on another series (Paradise Lost) but I’m hoping to release Saul’s book over the next month or two. I hope you enjoy the Crystal series in the meantime.
      God bless.

  8. Hello Dayo. Been waiting for your next release on The Lincoln. Glad to receive your email yesterday.
I admire the gift you have. I wonder if you will have a look at why the book of Esther was stopped at verse 3 in chapter 5 but continued in the Apocrypha – KJV 1611. The history of the real Hebrews and the origination of Christianity. There are lot of resources hidden from the regular church goers that will blow your mind. And a better understanding of the Old Testament and the New Testament requires the Apocrypha. Anyways, you have been a blessing in my journey and I wanted to humbly share this with you.

I appreciate your gift and dedication.

    Thanks
    Beebee

    1. Thanks, Beebee. I hope you enjoy the book. Your comment on Esther is interesting. Thanks for mentioning it. I’ll do some research about the Apocrypha.
      God bless.

  9. Dear Dayo, I have the whole Christal series except number 6 – Secrets. I have been unable to get it on Amazon so can you tell me how to get it before I move on to book 7 please.

  10. Hi Dayo,
I am a Christian mommy and wife who also teaches first graders – living in Texas, USA.
I just want to say that I am really enjoying your books, you are an amazing writer! I absolutely love how you portray the power and grace of God through your books!
    Keep on writing!

    1. Hi Jean, great to hear from you. Thanks for telling me about yourself. I like to ‘get to know’ the people who read my books 🙂 I’m so glad you’re enjoying them.

      1. I have just finished the first book in the Crystal series and enjoyed it very much. I tried to sign up for a free book but I can’t access my E-mail to verify my request. I am 75 &don’t know a lot about email & computers-I am on the Kindle that my daughter gave me for Christmas 2 years ago & friend showed me how to get free books just this month. Hopefully I can figure out how to access the next book in this series. I haven’t been to church very much since my daughter died on 3/10/2014. I went to church today after reading your book for the first time in quite a while. Thanks for helping me go back where I really need to be. My daughter would have been 44 on December 4th and I am still struggling with her passing.

        1. Hi Elva, I’m sorry to hear about your daughter. That’s such a shame. May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, comfort you.
I’m glad my book inspired you to return to church. That’s awesome. I love hearing from older readers 🙂 I have quite a few free books on Amazon, so if you can’t access your email just go onto my author page at Amazon and check out the free books. Hope you enjoy them.
          Merry Christmas.

  11. I just finished reading your book LUST. Ok I’m stunned to say the least. I am 54 years old, was a victim of multiple childhood abuse’s and was exactly Noemi??? After 30 years of counseling, several suicide attempts and finally finding my Savior to forgive me, how can you be so young and know so much? I have read hundred of thousands books throughout my life and have never been touched by such a personal account of what it is truly like to be hurt so deeply, then be shown a Savior who asks nothing, yet you never quite feel total forgiveness. Thank you

    1. Hi Mary Pat, it’s great to hear from you. Your story is so heartbreaking. I wrote ‘Lust’ so that everyone who has been through something similar would know that they’re not alone. I’m really glad the story touched you. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalms 34:18). God bless and stay strong 🙂

  12. Hey there! I’ve been following your weblog for some time now and
finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Lubbock Texas!
Just wanted to say keep up the fantastic job!

  13. Hi Dayo! I love your books – your writing is very real. I’ve finished the Lexi books and the Crystal books you’ve written and a few others. I’m curious, how did you learn about the occult? I love the way you reflect the power of God over Satan. Also, how did you learn about the fashion and music industries?

    1. Hey Ame, most of it is my imagination. I did begin to research a little about the occult, but stopped because I quite frankly don’t really want to know what they do. For the fashion industry, it’s imagination too, along with things I’ve picked up from TV.
I’m so glad you like the books. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂 God bless.

  14. Hello Dayo,
I read your book Lust yesterday and I could not put it down, I read it in one sitting. I really loved it and I found it real, not just a fairy tale romance. I love the way you wove the theme of faith and Gods grace throughout and I believe that this book goes beyond just a good read and has the power to impact lives. There are some things that really spoke to me in the book. I pray that God would give you grace to continue to touch lives through your wonderful writing!

      1. Hi JCMorrows, thank you for awarding me this award 🙂 I will do my part and write my blog post and nominate a few other blogs. Your own blog is very uplifting. Well done for winning nanowrimo. God bless xx

  15. Hi ….i was on amazon and couldn’t get your books in hardcopy…. are they available on hard copy as i would like to buy prodigal, red carpet and refiners fire,… Please reply soonest…

    1. Hi Ade, thanks for your interest in my books. I’m afraid they are not yet available as paperbacks. If you don’t have a Kindle you can still read them using a Kindle app if you have a PC, smartphone or tablet. I am hoping to get them into paperback form though. I’ll do a blog post to let everyone know when that happens.
      God bless.
