From the Back Cover:

Out of the frying pan and into the fire…

Katie: I thought Hudson was bad. Devin makes Hudson look like a choir boy!

With Hudson, what you see is what you get. With Devin, everything is an illusion.

Just when Katie thinks things can’t possibly get any worse, she makes a shocking discovery that plunges her to rock bottom. But this time, she refuses to take it lying down. Devin Lake should change his name to Devil Lake so that the world will know how evil he is.

The only problem is a whole host of TV cameras are present to capture Katie’s epic meltdown.

Hudson: It’s hard to watch Katie losing it so badly.

Once again, Katie and Devin are the headline news, and journalists are camping outside Katie’s home. This could be Hudson’s opportunity to step in and play savior.

When Hudson’s mother calls with an invitation home for his father’s birthday, Hudson invites Katie. A few days out of town is just what she needs.

But Hudson hasn’t been home for ten years. His family and all his old friends think he’s a murderer.

How will they react to seeing him again?

It’s crunch time.

Between Devin’s manipulation and the questions that have arisen about her mom’s death, Katie is barely hanging on. Accompanying Hudson home is a welcome distraction, but a storm has been building within her for weeks. Something major is imminent.

Will Katie surrender her life to the One who can turn it around?

A story of brokenness, healing, and God’s mercy.

I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of this series. I’m so grateful to every one of my readers who has followed Katie and Hudson through their ups and downs.

My plan was to release Lincoln books interchangeably with PL installments, but I’ve been unable to do that. PL has been a lot of work because I’ve been releasing so frequently. If I’d spaced the releases out more I may have been able to throw up a Lincoln book or two as well. Anyway, I’m about halfway through Saul Lincoln’s book so I’ll try and stay focused on it for the next few weeks 🙂

Hudson’s Secret is Revealed – Out Now: Torn (Paradise Lost 5)

Hi guys,

Hudson’s secret is revealed today in Torn (Paradise Lost 5) 😮 😂 😀

Click Here to Get Your Copy Now.

Hudson confesses all to Katie, but will it be enough? His confession might be too little too late. Even worse, it might scare Katie away. Especially now that she has other options. Devin Lake, a superstar singer who wants to help Katie with her dance career, is moving in on her, and Katie finds herself at the center of a love triangle that she never bargained for.

From the Back Cover

Hudson: “I want to tell you why I do this job.”

Everything Hudson is doing to hold on to Katie is failing woefully. And with another man in the picture, luring her away, he realizes that he will have to do something drastic if he wants to keep her. He will have to lay himself bare and tell her the secret he’s been holding back. But what if it scares her away like it did the last girl he told?

Devin: “If you want to be with me, you’ll have to get rid of him.”

Those were Devin’s words to Katie back in Vegas, and he hasn’t changed his mind. It should be an easy choice. Devin is offering dance bookings and a superstar lifestyle, while it seems Hudson is offering nothing but drama and heartbreak.

Katie: “Color me confused…”

She loves one man, but needs the other.

Both men want her to choose. But how does she choose between the bad boy her heart longs for and a megastar who seems too good to be true?

Katie is well and truly torn.

Being at the center of a love triangle is no fun. Hudson is fighting dirty, but Devin knows how to get what he wants. Will he get Katie?

Double Release!!!

Hi guys,

I’m so excited today, because not only is it release day, but I’ve decided to do a double release!!! Hooked is out, which is awesome but you already knew it was coming out. However… Falling (Paradise Lost 2) is also out. It was ready so I thought ‘why not?’ and pushed the button.

Click Here to Buy Hooked | Click Here to Buy Falling

So, guys, you can grab both Hooked and Falling today and binge binge binge. For those of you who hate Mondays, I hope this brightens your day 🙂

You guys know absolutely nothing about Falling. You didn’t even know that book 2 was going to be called Falling. You haven’t even seen the cover until now (isn’t it awesome 🙂 )

I’m not going to give any info about Falling because you need to just read Hooked first. Then after Hooked, you can read the back cover blurb for Falling and find out everything you need to know before reading it.

In case you’ve missed them, I’ve written two blog posts about Hooked:

Click Here for the first post

Click Here for the second post

I’m super excited to hear your feedback on these books. It’s a new challenge for me to write a serial so I chose a storyline that I knew I could write passionately about. It follows the struggles of two preacher’s kids who have turned their back on God and are completely broken. Do they ever find their way back???

Here’s the back cover blurb from book 1, Hooked:

Two messed up preacher’s kids. One reckless decision. Zero chance of survival.

Katie Clarke has been disillusioned with God and religion for years—ever since her father, a small-town preacher, fell from grace. But meeting Hudson, the son of a famous mega preacher, makes her wonder whether Hudson will be the tool God uses to restore her faith. However, she soon discovers that he is even more messed up than she is.

A decision Katie should never have made lands her in a shocking situation with Hudson that gives her some insight into just how damaged he is. She can see the pain, but she doesn’t know what has caused it. More importantly, she doesn’t know whether, by sticking around, they will help to heal each other or just feed off each other’s pain.

Hudson is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Adonis but there is darkness beneath his beauty.

And his warning to her ‘get away from me before I taint you’ rings loudly in her ears.

Is she already too intrigued to save herself from him?

A story of brokenness, healing, and God’s mercy.

Hooked (Paradise Lost 1) – Coming on Monday

Hi guys,

Just two days to go until Hooked (Paradise Lost1) releases 🙂 🙂 🙂 If you haven’t preordered yet, CLICK HERE to preorder. Also, make sure you’re on my mailing list by clicking here so that you get the release day email.

In my last blog post, I promised to introduce you to some of the characters in the series, so here it is…

Katie Clarke

Katie is our heroine. She’s the daughter of an ex-preacher who fell from grace, and she’s bitterly anti-faith. She’s from a small town but packed up and moved to New York for college, wanting to get away from home and the disgrace that befell her family. College is tough because she’s struggling financially.

Hudson Taylor

A preachers kid from Washington DC who moved to New York to escape something he refuses to tell Katie about. Hudson has lots of secrets, lots of issues, and is a whole lot of drama. When Katie meets him, she’s sucked in by his classic good looks and thinks the fact that they’re both preacher’s kids is some kind of sign that they’re supposed to be together. Hudson’s father is a famous mega pastor, so Hudson will help her to get back onto the straight and narrow, right???

Ella

The devil on Katie’s shoulder. She’s the best friend who is full of bad advice and new creative ways to get Katie to screw up her life. But her heart is in the right place.

Ro (short for Rochelle)

The angel on Katie’s shoulder. She’s Katie’s roommate and is a Christian. She has lots of good advice for Katie, although Katie never wants to hear it.

There are some other characters who become more important as the series progresses, but for now, those are the main people.

Here’s the back cover blurb:

Two messed up preacher’s kids. One reckless decision. Zero chance of survival.

Katie Clarke has been disillusioned with God and religion for years—ever since her father, a small-town preacher, fell from grace. But meeting Hudson, the son of a famous mega preacher, makes her wonder whether Hudson will be the tool God uses to restore her faith. ***

I’m so excited about this series for two reasons.

1. God’s goodness shown through imperfect characters

Katie and Hudson are as far away from perfect as two people can possibly be. Things get really intense and heartbreaking near the end of the series. We live in a broken world but I don’t want to just write about brokenness. I want to show that there’s a remedy too. And I want to send the message that the more broken you are, the more cracks there are for God’s glory to shine through. In Mark 2:17 (NLT), Jesus says, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor–sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” We all need to ponder that for a moment…

2. I’ve always wanted to write a serial

Serial fiction is basically a drama unfolding in smaller bite-sized chunks rather than long sprawling novels. After writing over thirty novels I felt like it’s time to face a new challenge. Shorter fiction is harder to write because you have less time to capture the reader. The pacing also has to be much faster. I’ve learned a lot from writing Paradise Lost. Yes, the whole serial is written 🙂 Each installment just needs thorough editing now.

3. It’s written in first person present tense

I have never written in first person present tense. I’ve written in first person past tense (Prodigal, Beauty for Ashes series, Drew Ashley series). Then I switched to writing in third person past tense. The first time I wrote in third person past tense was when I wrote Lust (Pure Passion 1). I was really worried because it was new to me, and I was also going to write scenes from the male protagonists point of view for the first time. Every book I’ve written since then I’ve written in the same tense and POV, and I’ve gotten pretty used to writing from male characters’ points of view.

I figured I need a new challenge and this is it. Lots of contemporary young adult and new adult books are written in first person present tense and I’ve never really liked it. It’s not my preferred way to write, but I wanted to try it. As I wrote Hooked I kept automatically switching to past tense or third person, and the first draft was a total mess. But by book three, I was used to it. I sound like a total geek, going on about this stuff. Thanks for indulging me 🙂

KDP Select

I’m trying out Amazon’s KDP select service with this serial, which means I have to make the books exclusive to Amazon for at least three months. I tried KDP Select years ago when I started out and didn’t think it was great, but apparently things have changed and I’m hearing good things about it from other authors, so I’ve decided to try it again. The good news is, if you’re in Kindle Unlimited you’ll be able to read Hooked and the rest of Paradise Lost free as part of your subscription. I apologize to those of my readers who purchase my books on other platforms. Please email me (dayo@dayobenson.com) if you’re unable to get books from Amazon.

So that’s it from me. I’ll be in touch again on release day 🙂

Have a fabulous weekend <3

Pre-order ‘Hooked’/Easter Video

Happy Easter Everyone 🙂

Whatever you have planned I hope you’re having a blast. Me and my family have been attending an Easter retreat at my church. Two full days (10am to 6.30pm) on Friday and Saturday, and just a morning session today. It’s been a time of deep reflection for me. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4Given.

Just before I pop off to church, I figured I should send you guys a video (in which I reflect on some of the events in the Easter story), and also a book update I’ve been meaning to send all week (after church all I’ll want to do is have lunch and relax 🙂 )

Video

As I was reading the book of Matthew last month it hit me that:

  • Peter and Judas were both warned by Jesus, they both reacted to Jesus’ warning in the wrong way, and they both fell…but things ultimately turned out very differently for them. How do you react after an epic failure?
  • Jesus’ detractors said they would believe in Him if He would come down from the cross and save Himself. Well, He did more than come down from the cross. He resurrected. How about that!
  • The women of the Easter story are amazing. I give them a shout out near the end of the video.

Book Update

Hooked is releasing on Monday 9 April (just a week away!!!). It’s available for preorder on Amazon. Click HERE to preorder. Like I said a few weeks back on Facebook, it’s a serial. I feel like I should stress that fact so that nobody is surprised when they read it, lol. I’ve wanted to write serial fiction for years. It’s basically a story told in ‘episodes’ like a TV drama, so they tend to be shorter than a full-length novel. The whole serial is called Paradise Lost, and Hooked is installment 1.

Paradise Lost is about two messed up preachers kids, and Hooked is basically the story of how they meet. I’m a preacher’s kid myself and had a time of being borderline messed up, ha ha, but no, Paradise Lost is not in anyway autobiographical. No, seriously, it isn’t, lol.

The series is very edgy. ‘Edgy’ is code for it goes where most Christian fiction doesn’t 🙂 I feel called to write for a particular kind of reader and I picture that reader when I write. This is ‘normal’ fiction though. Not my usual supernatural, spiritual warfare stuff. I find I need to write non-supernatural stuff alongside the heavy supernatural stuff, as I find it a welcome break.

Out Now: The Chef (The Lincolns 7)

Hi Peeps,

Hope you’re well and are having better weather than us here in the UK. We woke up to snow yesterday morning, just when I thought spring is on the horizon 🙂

I’ve had lots of (semi) patient emails about when the next Lincoln book will be out so I’m happy to announce that it’s out now!!! I’m really excited about this book because I got to deal with some themes that are really close to my heart, such as how God favours and blesses the undeserving and how true love can overcome any challenge.
I won’t go into too much detail because the synopsis is below and I also wrote a blog post introducing the book a few weeks ago, which you can read by clicking HERE.

From the Back Cover

Lilah Luckett was promised a protector.

As a coven slave, Lilah is desperate for freedom. The only way that can happen is if a practitioner more powerful than her master takes her under his wing.

Enter, the enchanting Locke Lincoln.

His surfer dude good looks are enough to make any girl crave shelter in his arms, but he’s more than just a pretty face; he also has the power to be Lilah’s protector. But how does Lilah get his attention?

Locke Lincoln is looking for distraction.
Locke’s younger brother was the closest friend he ever had. Now that he’s dead, Locke’s life is in turmoil. When Lilah shows up, offering fun in Vegas and an escape from reality, Locke is game.

Neither of them has any idea what is about to happen.
Locke seems perfect, but he’s far from it. He is fighting dark forces that want him to continue his father’s evil agenda. It seems becoming a Christian means nothing when blood covenants have been made and oaths taken.

Then Lilah’s past catches up with her and all her careful plans begin to crumble.

Will Locke be able to escape the clutches of his father’s legacy?
And once he works out that Lilah is just using him, will he fight for her or let her die?

As always, I look forward to your feedback once you’ve read The Chef. Leave a review at whichever store you buy from and you can also drop me a line at dayo@dayobenson.com if you’d like.

Thank you to everyone who emailed me after The Physician to let me know which is their favourite Lincoln book so far. Also, thanks to all who commented on my last post and told me which Lincoln series heroine they like best. I really appreciate it and I’m ever grateful to have such awesome readers.

About The Chef (The Lincolns 7)/Update on Daily Bible Reading

Hello, lovelies!

So, last week I posted the book cover for the next Lincoln book, The Chef, on all my social media platforms. It’s fabulous, isn’t it? Now, I want to give you some information about the book. Unfortunately, I don’t have a release date yet because I’ve just sent it to my editor and she is really busy at the moment so she won’t be able to get it edited as fast as she usually does, so I’ll just have to wait and see.

About Locke Lincoln

He’s the brother who got saved along with Ash in The Model. He’s the third to last of the 12 brothers (after him are Solomon and then Junior). He moved out of the Lincoln mansion with Ash when they both got saved, but then moved back in when Rebel and Taye became Christians, because the whole plan was to try and influence the non-Christian brothers rather than deserting them. You saw plenty of him in The Physician, locking horns with Jared and being a kind of spiritual mentor to Rebel and Taye.

He was fun to write about because being one of the youngest brothers he’s pretty naive and trusting.  He was extremely close to Junior and is dealing with pretty bad depression over Junior’s death. His depression causes him to make some reckless decisions in this book.

About Lilah Luckett

She’s a thief, a practitioner from early childhood and a coven slave. And she wants to escape. She will do anything to get her freedom, even manipulate Locke. Her full name is Delilah–go figure 🙂

You guys will have to tell me which heroine is your favourite so far so that I know which type of heroine is resonating with you. Here’s a list of all the heroine’s so far. I really want your opinion:

  1. Ivy (Saul – and Jared, kind of) – The Lincoln Manifesto
  2. Calcy (Jared) – The Lincoln Manifesto
  3. Keltie (Ash) – The Model
  4. Hazel (Junior) – The Runaway
  5. Andie (Nigel) – The Record Boss
  6. Kara (Taye) – The Designer
  7. Daisy (Rebel) – The Physician

Anyway, here’s the back cover blurb for The Chef. It could very well change since it hasn’t been edited yet and I’m awaiting feedback on it.

From the Back Cover

***

The Chef spans the time from the end of The Model to a few months after The Physician, so I had to think really hard about how to show that time has passed. At the beginning of the book Junior has just ‘died’ and none of the brothers are Christians and by the end everyone who became Christians in subsequent books are Christian. I hope I’m making sense, ha ha.

Already Broken your New Year’s Resolutions?

Happy new year guys!

Today is the 15 of January, and according to research, this is the day by which most people have already broken their new year’s resolutions. Can you believe that??? Most people’s new year’s resolutions last 15 days! There’s other research that says the 24th of January, which is slightly better, but still awful.

So…if you’ve already broken your resolutions, I want to tell you that it doesn’t make you a failure, it doesn’t make you a bad person. Maybe you just didn’t plan enough, or you didn’t anticipate a certain setback you’ve experienced, or you haven’t made it compelling enough. Here are 4 tips for getting back on track (You can either watch the below video or carry on reading below):

https://youtu.be/H0iVuhUTddc

1. Regroup

It’s one thing to fall off track, it’s another thing to abandon your resolution and your goal altogether. Giving up on a resolution just because you’ve fallen off track is like smashing your phone just because you’ve dropped it. If you drop your phone you don’t stamp on it and smash it to pieces. You pick it up, because it’s useful. Because it’s something of value.

Your goals and your vision are valuable. If you’ve dropped the ball, pick it up. Regroup. Think about what you’ve done wrong and how you can do better. If it’s a diet goal, are you being too drastic? Are you focused on what you’re not allowed to do rather than the benefits? Let’s say you want to lose ten pounds. Are you focused on all the don’ts?

Don’t eat chocolate.

Don’t have ice cream.

No donuts.

Or are you focused on the goal and getting yourself excited about it? Getting excited about the body you want and the positive improvement in your health that it’ll give you?

2. Remind yourself of your reasons

Why do you want to lose that weight? Why do you want to wake up at 5am? Why did you decide to stop drinking? Why do you want to work harder? Why do you want to read through the whole bible?

How will it change your life, your family’s life, your future?

Hold your reasons in your mind and it will fire you up to act.

3. Refine your vision

You refine your vision by seeing your destination. See where you want to be on December 31st of this year. Engage your imagination. Stop looking at the things that stand in the way, the things that have caused you to already get off track, and look at the endpoint. You go in the direction of what you focus on. What are your looking at? The here and now, or that destination that you want?

A wise person once said, ‘Only those who can see the invisible will achieve the impossible’. And if you’re saying, ‘Hold up, Dayo. I’m not trying to achieve the impossible here. I just want to lose some weight, I just want to stick to my bible reading plan, I just want to be nicer to my kids.’ I hear you. But if you’re not already doing it, it means it’s been impossible for you so far. Maybe you’ve managed to do it in the past, but right now, it’s become impossible. Refine your vision and start looking at the invisible. Talk to yourself and claim the behaviours you want in your life. Tell yourself, ‘I like to drink water and eat healthy food; I work out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; I read my bible every morning; I wake up at five am every day and pursue my priorities; I am a loving and patient parent.’

It may not be true just yet, but guess what? Give it some time and you’ll start moving in that direction. Your behaviour will adjust to match your new beliefs and you’ll begin to move in the direction of that vision that you’ve decided to focus on.

Some people will say that’s being fake, but it isn’t being fake. It’s faith. It’s being like God who calls the things that are not as though they are. That’s Romans 4:17 and it means that God sees the mighty man of valor in Gideon while he’s threshing wheat in secret, hiding from the Midianites. He sees the great king in David while he’s a mere shepherd boy. He sees the mother of a mighty nation in Sarah while she’s still barren. All of these people through whom God worked in Bible times had to have faith and get in alignment with the vision.

The Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4 had just lost her son. He’d died. But she said ‘it is well,’ not ‘he’s dead’, because that was the vision she had about the situation. And things did turn out well in the end.

Refine your vision. Look at the invisible. Things will begin to change.

4. Regular review

Review your resolutions regularly if you want to stay on track. It’s up to you how often you want to review them. For my writing goals, I record how many words I’ve written in a spreadsheet every single day and that’s a kind of review for me that helps me ensure that I’m being productive.

For all my other goals (non-writing ones) I review myself weekly on Sundays. After church my kids go to their grandparents house, me and my husband have a nice meal and hang out, then at some point before I go to the evening service I make some time to review the week and see where I fell short, where I did well, and plan my action points/to-do’s for the coming week.

If you’ve already dropped the ball with your new year resolutions, pick it back up. Dribble it. And determine to slam dunk it by December 31st 🙂 And if you’re still on track well done, keep going and may God prosper all our endeavours.

I’ll have a book update for you soon so watch this space.

God bless.

I’m so excited about this book. I can’t wait for you guys to read it.

Here’s the Back Cover Blurb for anyone who hasn’t read it yet:

The murder he can’t remember
New Christian, Rebel Lincoln, is horrified to wake up in a hotel room next to a dead body and with no memory of how he got there. Being a Christian is supposed to invite peace, love, and joy into his life, right? So why has Rebel’s life suddenly taken such a disastrous turn?

The girl who got away
Forensic scientist, Daisy Bell, met Rebel months ago on his brother’s yacht. They connected, but she has too many issues and too many secrets, so she gave him a fake number and they lost touch. Now, she is investigating his case and needs to be cool and detached—but heat simmers beneath the surface. She believes him when he says he’s been framed, but could her judgment be clouded by his pretty, blue eyes?

The right thing at the wrong time
Daisy is everything Rebel wants in a woman, and her sassy attitude only makes him crave her more. But with the ongoing murder investigation, the timing couldn’t be worse. She’s the only person who believes in his innocence, but as the pressure mounts and new evidence is revealed Rebel is driven to desperation. And desperate actions can cause even those who love you to leave you.
Rebel didn’t realize becoming a Christian would invite so much madness into his life. So many of his brothers have gone before him so he expected an easy ride. But there is nothing easy about life right now. Someone is out to destroy him. That someone must be unmasked or Rebel is headed to jail and can forget about ever winning Daisy’s heart.

Who has framed Rebel Lincoln?

Hi people,

Happy Thanksgiving to any Americans reading 🙂

So, I promised, yesterday, to post the back cover blurb for The Physician today.
